Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q)

Being physically active is very safe for most people. Some people, however, should check with their doctors before they increase their current level of activity. If you haven't been active recently, or are looking to add a new or more intense exercise to your current routine, the physical activity readiness questionnaire (PAR-Q) can help you decide if you are ready to exercise safely, or if you might need a trip to your doctor/GP to make sure you don't push beyond your own limit!

What are the main reasons for starting a fitness programme?

If you are between the ages of 18 and 70, the PAR-Q will tell you if you should check with your doctor before you significantly change your physical activity patterns. If you are over 70 years of age and are not used to being very active, please check with your doctor.

If you answered YES to one or more questions:

You should consult with your doctor to clarify that it is safe for you to become physically active at this current time and in your current state of health.

If you answered NO to ALL of the questions:

It is reasonably safe for you to participate in physical activity, gradually building up from your current ability level. A fitness appraisal can help determine your ability levels.
